(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Rank Group Plc ("Rank" or "the Group") announces the opening today of a new G Casino at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.
The casino was acquired from Isle of Capri for a cash consideration of £650,000 in April 2009 and has been re-launched under Rank's G Casino brand after an investment of £1 million to reconfigure the site.
The launch of the 44,000 sq ft Coventry G Casino brings the number of G Casinos operating in Britain to nine with a further G Casino in Sheffield scheduled to open before the end of the year. Recently, Rank announced its intention to grow the successful G Casino brand to 20 clubs by the end of 2012.
Rank's ambition is to broaden the appeal of the casino market in Britain by offering customers a wider range of gaming and non-gaming activities. The new G Casino in Coventry features a modern restaurant, a stylish bar, a sports lounge and one of the largest poker rooms in the UK. The casino also features 20 gaming tables, 20 gaming machines and 50 electronic roulette tables.
The first G Casino opened in Manchester in 2006. Since then seven more G Casinos have been added in Aberdeen, Blackpool, Bolton, Dundee, Luton, Thanet and London's Piccadilly Circus. In September 2009, Rank Interactive launched a new flagship online casino under the brand at gcasino.com.
Commenting on the new opening, Phil Urban, managing director of Rank's casinos business, said:
"I am delighted to be announcing a further G Casino opening in the UK, following the opening of the Dundee G Casino earlier this month. The Ricoh Arena is a great venue and we are proud to be a part of its future."
